Water Shortage

When talking about water shortage we can refer to 2 different things: drought and water crisis. In most situations we are referring to a water crisis. In this type of water shortage we are talking about a problem in the connection between present water resources and human demand. When dealing with water crisis we are also referring to usable water scarcity and problems with water pollution.

According to statistics we now know that there is a constant increase in the number of people living in developing countries that have gained access to a safe water source. Specialists think that this increase will continue as more people are aware of the bad living conditions in some areas of the world. The planet does not provide us with infinite sources of water. At the moment only some of them can be used and converted to potable water. This is because the process of transforming fresh water into potable water can be very difficult in different regions around the world.

At the moment the water shortage has reached a degree that tells us 1.1 billion individuals from around the world do not have access to drinking water. Agriculture also suffers as groundwater is overdrafting and pollution is a factor that should always be taken into account. To make everything even worse, water shortage in various regions from around the world have led to warfare in the past.

Water shortage can also happen due to a drought. We are basically talking about a long period of time that is characterized by water supply deficiency. In most situations this will happen because a region will not have enough precipitation. This has an immediate impact on agriculture and the ecosystem. The bad news is that sometimes droughts can even last for a number of years. We must understand that even short and intense droughts can cause a lot of damage to the local economy of the affected area.

No matter what type of water shortage we are dealing with, both have a lot of negative aspects that have to be considered. When we do not have water we can end up with numerous problems including diseases and even deaths. We can not wash and we do not have anything to drink. As you can see it is very difficult to deal with such a condition. We must also consider the situation in which the water sources become polluted and the water can not be drunk anymore. In this case we are also dealing with a drinking water crisis that can cause a lot of problems.
