Water Desalination

According to statistics, every 20 years the quantity of water that is consumed is doubled. This basically means that the growth rate is twice the one we see in population growth. In 2006 we have seen a demand of water that exceeded water supply by around 55%. This is quit an alarming percentage and has brought in a need to look towards different water sources in order to cope with water demand. Unfortunately fresh water supply is constantly decreasing and demand for industry purposes, people and food is constantly rising.

One solution offered in order to deal with this problem stands in water desalination. There are numerous companies all around the world that will provide institutions with everything that is needed in order to obtain fresh water from brackish sources and seawater. You should know that the world’s entire water supply is made out of oceans in a percentage of 97. Now we can use water desalination on seawater through SWRO (seawater reverse) membrane technology. By using this we are basically obtaining new local water supplies.

Different plant sizes are created; all based on needs. For instance, we can choose to create a small water desalination facility that can offer potable waters to different complexes at a rate of around 2 thousand cubic meters per day. We also have the possibility to build huge water desalination plants that can offer us 200 thousand cubic meters daily. One such example stands in the Hamma Desalination Plant, which is currently the biggest one to provide water desalination in the content of Africa.

While transforming seawater seems to be the best water desalination solution possible, we need to understand that there are regions that can not take advantage of this. In this case we might need brackish water desalination. Brackish water contains a lot of total solids and there is a need for different processes to be done in order to obtain fresh water or directly potable water. At the end of the day an investment in such a facility can only improve the region’s health standards and people will gain the needed water supplies that are necessary for living. We can not live without water and water desalination is a necessity in more regions than you might imagine. The good news is that we se a constant growth in the number of water desalination plants built and specialists think that this trend will continue in the future.
