Fresh Water Supply Problems

3 quarters of the entire surface of our planet is covered by water and at a first glance we might think that there are no possible problems when talking about fresh water supply. The problem is that only a small part of the water we see is basically fresh water that is not trapped in ice. Contrary to what you might believe, half of the fresh water supply of the entire world is found in South America with Asia holding just one quarter. The rest is split between remaining continents. You should know that most of our fresh water supply actually goes into agriculture and simply growing food. We only consume a small part of the entire supply. Unfortunately water is needed for a lot of things and at the end of the day more water is wasted than consumed. Statistics have shown that we constantly need more water and at one point in time we will end up with a lack of a good fresh water supply. The only good news comes from the fact that different processes like water desalination can bring in more water. The problem is that building such a plant does cost a lot of money and it is very difficult to do. Combine this with the fact that some fresh water supplies are contaminated and unusable at the moment and you can easily realize that we are dealing with an overall problem that is felt all around the world and especially in developing countries.

It is up to us to deal with fresh water supply problems and we can say that one of the best ways to do this is simply to manage how much we consume. There is a need for everybody to understand that water resources are finite and by saving water and reducing waste we do make a big step towards gaining the water supply we need in order to live.

We now know different facts about fresh water supplies from around the world. For instance, if water supply is scarce and it ends being managed locally it will be used better. Through local management we give power to people and in most cases we are talking about poor people that do care about the fresh water supply in their area. At the end of the day all the problems possible with any fresh water supply can be handled and it is our responsibility to do this
