Hair Loss Vitamins for Cancer Patients

Hair loss (medically known as alopecia) can appear as a very common effect for cancer patients that are undergoing chemotherapy. On the other hand, not all drugs that will be taken under these circumstances are causing hair loss. A good place to start talking about this is asking your doctor if hair loss can appear when you take the drugs that are prescribed for you. Hair loss in cancer patients can happen and when it does it can become just thinner or fall out completely. It can happen on every part of the body including arms, legs, head, face, pubic area and underarms. The good news is that hair does grow back after treatment is over in most cases. Some individuals will even notice that hair starts to grow back as they are still under treatment but it can be scary as hair may grow with a different color or texture.

Generally speaking, vitamins are very good for hair loss as it usually takes place due to a lack of necessary nutrition. When dealing with cancer patients it is not like that because it is not a type of hair loss that is caused by lack of vitamins and minerals but baldness caused by medication or chemotherapy. It does not always happen immediately and may start after several weeks from when the first treatment session occurred or just after some treatments. You may notice hair falling in clumps or gradually and the hair that is still growing can become dry and dull.

One of the main circumstances that require attention is chemotherapy. Besides a need for vitamins and minerals you will also need to take care of your hair and scalp by doing some simple things. First off, start using a mild shampoo and a soft hair brush while utilizing low heat when drying your hair or just leaving it dry alone. Cut your hair short as it will make it look fuller and harder and hair loss will become easier to manage when it happens. Never forget to use sun block, sun screen or a hat in order to protect the scalp in the even of losing hair and always avoid brush rollers.

Vitamins for hair loss for cancer patients will not aid much. Hair loss might happen at a slower pace but if the drugs used are hair loss causers then this is what will happen. This does not mean that you should stop taking your daily vitamins as we are dealing with a situation in which your body is weaker. There is a huge chance that you will have to change your diet and this will immediately include a change in the dietary supplements you are using at the moment. It is highly important that you talk to your doctor and even consult a specialized nutritionist if needed. Cancer patients do have a lot to go through and hair loss is what usually happens. It needs to be handled with seriousness in mind and if all goes well hair does fully grow back after treatment is over.
