Vitamins For Women

Contrary to popular belief, men and women do have different needs when talking about vitamins and minerals but this is sometimes misunderstood. It is not a question of needing some specific vitamins and minerals for women. The reality stands in a difference in quantities needed as there are some vitamins and minerals that are required in different daily amounts for women when compared to those needed for men. There are differences between men and women that lead towards a different approach towards nutrition and dietary supplements. You will have to combine food with a good vitamins and minerals for women supplement and keep in mind that you will definitely need the vitamins and minerals presented below.

Women usually need around 5,000 to 25,000 UI of Vitamin A on a daily basis. If the woman is pregnant or wants to become pregnant she needs to never go over 10,000 IU because it can easily lead to birth defects in some cases. Never neglect Vitamin C in quantities that range from 200 to 600 mg per day and B complex vitamins should also be included in the diet and taken at least three times a day in a total of between 10 and 200 mg. One serving of B vitamins can come from a good daily vitamins and minerals for women supplement but the rest should come from food. Women should also take Vitamin D, in quantities between 200 and 400 IU daily and this is recommended to be done under the form of ergocalciferol (commonly known as vitamin D2). Vitamin E is also highly important as quantities need to be ranged between 200 and 400 IU daily with a recommended higher dose to be prescribed by the doctor in some cases.

One problem with women stands in the menstruation cycle. If a lot of blood is loss on a monthly basis there is a need to add an iron supplement to the diet, especially if also fitted with IUD (intrauterine device). Women should take 10 to 15 mg on a daily bases and you need to know that the best iron form available in food can be located in meat and needs to be taken in a combination with Vitamin C for maximum efficiency. Add Iodine as well in quantities between 75 and 150 mcg daily and Zinc between 10 and 15 mg daily under the form of picolinate or zinc gluconate. Do not neglect the need of Selenium (50 to 200 mcg daily), Magnesium (200 to 400 mcg daily) and Calcium (200 to 1,000 mg daily). Vitamins and minerals for women that are showing pre-menstrual syndrome (Also known as PMS) need to increase vitamin B6 intake up to 25 mg daily and primrose oil is also recommended. Postmenopausal women also need extra antioxidants together with an increase of Calcium quantities (600 to 1,200 IU daily) and osteoporosis can be prevented with taking 3mg of Boron daily. Make sure that most of the vitamins and minerals for women come from food and only use supplements as extra minerals and vitamins you do not get from food.
