Vitamins for Depression in Women

Out of all the “ingredients” in our body vitamins are the ones that could be considered among the most important. They play a key role in keeping us energetic and healthy and any deficiency can be harmful for us. This fact relates to mental health too and not just physical health. Contrary to popular belief, vitamins can be a strong ally in fighting depression in women and men because they help in regulating hormone production.

If our body is deficient in vitamins it can lead to tiredness, a confused state of mind, sleeplessness and eventually depression. A lot of research has been done on this topic and the most concrete examples found out highlighted the fact that B complex vitamins do have a strong connection with a lot of depression cases in women. In fact, it has been shown that most nutrition based depression problems are either started by or treated with various B complex vitamins. This is why a lot of doctors are recommending B complex supplements that come with magnesium add on as vitamins for depression in women.

Vitamin B3 is crucial for the process of cell respiration due to assistance in the release of energy and in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. It also aids in promoting the performance of the nervous system (thus directly linked with possible depression causes), the normal secretion of stomach fluids and the bile and maintaining healthy skin. Vitamin B3 is actually prescribed when treating some mental illnesses including schizophrenia and will act as a memory enhancer and is responsible for sex hormone synthesis.

Vitamin B6 has been linked with treating depression due to it playing an important part in the proper working of the human body. B6 aids in regulating enzymes, healthy skin and the digestive system. It also comes with a huge role in blood cell and antibodies production. B6 is extremely important for women as it maintains the hormonal balance and can regulate mood. To put it simple, Vitamin B6 deficiency does lead to insomnia, nervousness, anxiety, irritation and depression.

Do not forget to include vitamin B12 (also known as cyanocobamin or cobolamin) in your diet and check for it on the ingredients list of the desired vitamin supplement. You will need cobolamin in order to maintain red blood cells level and even to produce them while other effects include the regulation of appetite and promoting growth. Vitamin B12 prevents mental weakening in women and accelerates though process together with fighting infection and various carcinogen agents. Women that suffer from depression are given B12 supplements as it helps the patient respond faster to various depression drugs taken.

Although there are vitamins for depression in women and they do help out a lot, it is highly important that a close relationship is maintained with your doctor and that his/her indications are respected to the letter. The reason behind this is that this is the one person that can always give you the best advice based on how you are evolving with the possible problems you might have.
