Vitamins For The Immune System

As humans our bodies have a built in immune system which can remember foreign substances previously encountered and react properly. The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body. The primary destructive force to the human body and our built in immune systems is free radicals. Free radicals damage healthy cells by causing cell alterations (mutations). These cell mutations can lead to heart disease and cancer. We can strengthen our immune system and help eliminate free radicals by adapting a health maintenance routine including eating large quantities of fruits and vegetables. Why are these good for our immune system? They are the foods that contain most of the vitamins needed to maintain and strengthen a healthy immune system including vitamins A, B, C and E, Beta-carotene, Zinc and Folic acid.

Some of the best choices for fruits and vegetables containing vitamins that strengthen the immune system are apples, oranges, bananas, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, pumpkin and strawberries. These foods offer a high concentration of vitamins, A, B, C and E, as well as Beta Carotene and Zinc. It is very important to maintain a healthy immune system that you get at least the daily recommended amount of these vitamins for the immune system.

The average person does not often consume the recommended daily amount of fruits and vegetables to keep our immune systems strong and healthy and protective against bacteria, and viruses. There are over the counter vitamin supplements to assist us with maintaining a strong immune system. These vitamins for the immune system can be found at specialty stores such as GNC, local drug stores and even grocery stores. These vitamins are available in tablet or capsule form and by taking one to two supplements per day you can be sure to exceed the average daily recommended dose of immune system fighting dosage of vitamins.

In addition to eating healthy fruits and vegetables and enhancing your intake of supplemental vitamins, other ways to maintain a healthy immune system are to eat plenty of foods containing high concentration of Omega-3 Fatty Acids including salmon and walnuts, drinking plenty of water, and exercising on a regular basis. If you follow a daily routine of eating healthy, taking vitamin enhancements and exercising then you will strengthen your immune systems and help eliminate free radicals.
