What Vitamins are Healthy for the Heart?
A lot of people are wondering what vitamins are healthy for the heart although few realize that every single vitamin is highly important for our bodies and should be taken in qualities that are enough for our body to function properly. Keep in mind that there are a lot of things that can aid you in reducing heart disease risk. The most important ones are exercising on a regular basis, not smoking or chewing tobacco, keeping a low diet when talking about salt and fats and eating a lot of vegetables, fruits and whole grains. On the topic of vitamins, there are two that are known as vitamins that are very healthy for heart as they are antioxidants.
Antioxidants are highly important for our bodies because they keep cholesterol from reaching oxidation. When this happens oxygen will react with cholesterol in our blood. Such a process will cause the formation of what is known as bad cholesterol (also known as LDL cholesterol), which sticks to the lining of our arteries. Such LDL cholesterol can even bloc arteries and this means blood will not be able to get past the blocked areas. Such a blocking is names atherosclerosis and is very dangerous as you can imagine. The most well known and highly important vitamins for our heart, the ones that act most as crucial antioxidants to aid us in the processes mentioned above are Vitamin E and Vitamin C. Out of foods that you need to consume in order to avoid oxygenation vegetables and fruits are mostly recommended although a diet that is rich in these and lack meat can lead to deficits of some B vitamins, which also play an important role in heart health. You need to know that if you are already suffering from a heart disease, quantities of vitamin E can help you reduce the risk of heart attacks up to 40%. The trick is combining it with Vitamin C because they do work well as a tag team for your body.
In order to properly lower the risk of heart disease, there is a big chance that you will need much more vitamin C and vitamin E than what you obtain from food. Doctors do tend to prescribe extra vitamin E and Vitamin C in various conditions met. This includes heart attacks, bypass surgery, angioplasty, blocked leg arteries, strokes caused by carotid artery disease, surgery or blood clots, high levels of triglycerides or LDL cholesterol, tobacco use and high pressure. The good news is that most people will not show side effects from normal doses of these two vitamins. In some cases you might see bloating, nausea, upset stomach or loose stools at the beginning of treatments. Vitamin E acts like a blood thinner if you end up taking more than 800 IU daily so you should pay attention to a combination with blood thinning drugs like warfarin. This needs to be discussed with your personal doctor with extreme seriousness.
