Vitamins For Healthy Heart
Vitamins are highly important for any part of our body and this includes our heart, which is one of the most important organs we have. Out of all the essential nutrients that we need in order to function well, vitamins are the ones that people do know most about due to intensive research that has been done in the past and keeps being done. You will probably remember when your mother always said that you need to take your vitamins or she was feeding you something that you did not like although it was highly important for your health. Vitamins help us perform various functions and we can not survive without them, that is how important they are. We could define the “heart vitamins” term used around the world as specific vitamins that will contribute to the proper functioning and overall health of our heart. They are also very important in helping prevent heart disease and various other possible cardiovascular issues.
The most important healthy heart vitamins are found in the B Vitamin family. They have different functions and on the whole they aid with numerous processes that go on inside our bodies. Few people know but it is a fact that they can actually reduce the risk of the individual developing heart disease. If you want to aid your heart you will need to pay attention to some of the B complex vitamins, especially folic acid (commonly known as Vitamin B9), Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12. All of them aid the heart by helping our bodies to remove a substance called homocysteine from blood. If you have high levels of homocysteine in your system the end result is artery damage. In order to obtain the needed quantities of B vitamins from food you should know that the best source possible is meat, one of the reasons why vegetarians do have an increased risk of reaching dangerous homocysteine levels if they do not take supplements that contain B vitamins.
Another B vitamin, Vitamin B3 (also known as niacin) can reduce cholesterol that is found in high concentrations. The problem is that the proof presented for this statement is not conclusive and further research is needed. On the other hand, this can not be said about vitamins E and C. They are also considered healthy heart vitamins as they work in a combination towards preventing heart disease thanks to their antioxidant abilities. If you are not aware of this, antioxidants are substances that remove toxic byproducts that appear because of chemical reactions that happen in our body. They are highly important for clearing out chemicals that can be dangerous for our health and keeping them from causing tissue and cell damage.
Vitamins should be taken in through food although some cases might stop us from reaching the needed quantities in our bodies. In this case dietary supplements in either vitamin or pill form are highly recommended and should not be avoided at any cost. Be sure to take a multivitamin supplement that features the vitamins mentioned above in order to have all the healthy heart vitamins you need to function properly.
