Vitamin E Foods

As with any vitamin or mineral out there the best source possible of vitamin E stands in what we eat. Supplements should only be taken when our diet is lacking nutrients and not in order to not eat. Vitamin E is a highly important vitamin that protects our skin from the damaging actions of sun rays while also preventing cell damage that can be caused by the action of free radicals. Vitamin E deficiency comes with a number of symptoms that we must be aware of. When they become reality we must immediately increase the intake of this vitamin in order to make sure nothing bad happens. Symptoms associated with vitamin E deficiency include gallbladder and liver problems, loss of sensation or tingling in legs, feet, hands and arms and some problems with the digestive system.

Good vitamin E foods can be grouped based on how much of the nutrient they contain. We thus have good sources, very good sources and excellent sources. The good sources include tomatoes, kiwifruit, blueberries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, bell pepper, kale, olives, papaya, parsley and collard greens. Better sources can be mentioned in spinach and almonds. On the other hand, if you are looking for the best possible sources of vitamin E you should consider turnip greens, sunflower seeds, chard and mustard greens. As you can see it is very easy to create a diet that is filled with vitamin E foods. To make everything even better, there are also cereals that are fortified with vitamin E. In fact, most of the quantity that can be taken in through eating can come through such cereals. They are fortified to a level of 40% of what is needed on a daily basis.

The biggest problem with vitamin E foods stands in the fact that a lot of the nutrient can be lost before you consume it. Factory processing and air exposure is particularly damaging when thinking about vitamin E content in our food. In order to protect the content of vitamin E we should make sure that the foods are kept in containers that are tightly capped. This is especially true for sunflower seed oil, peanut oil and olive oil. This will make it less likely to lose vitamin E due to air exposure. In the event that you can not meet the RDA of vitamin E through food intake you should seriously consider supplementation as it is highly important to take in all the possible benefits associated with the vitamin.
