Dog Vitamin E

Whenever we are thinking about a proper nutrition plan for pets we have to take into account all vitamins that are necessary for proper health and development. One vitamin that is sometimes overlooked is vitamin E. Any dog will need it but how can you know exactly how much to give your dog and what the right dosage is? Well, the truth is that it is very easy to answer these questions.

Vitamin E is very important for any dog, be it a puppy or adult. It is an antioxidant that can actually work wonders. Although the size of the dog is important, in most cases we are dealing with daily requirements of Vitamin E that ranges from 2.6 IU to 3 IU for every single pound. This basically means that a dog that weighs around 25 pounds should receive 75 IU daily. A dog that weighs around 50 pounds must receive around 150 IU daily. You can easily do the math and see how much Vitamin E your dog needs. Now if you take a look at most products on the market that are tailored for dogs you will notice higher dosage of Vitamin E. This basically means that the figures mentioned above are the minimum daily requirements. It is always better to give your dog a little more Vitamin E than these minimum requirements.

When your dog will lack vitamin E in proper quantities he will be faced with coat problems. Whenever that is noticed and vitamin E supplementation is brought back to normal you will soon see improvements in around 1 month. The coat will be healthier and will look better.

Keep in mind that dog vitamin E is very important in your dog’s diet but you will rarely need supplementation that is only based on this nutrient. In most cases the requirements will be met with a proper diet and all the needed extras should be obtained from supplements. Remember that you should never give your dog human vitamin supplements because this will negatively affect it. That is exactly why there are dog supplements available on the market. Most complete formulas out there do contain the right amount of vitamin E for your dog. The problem stands in the fact that different dog breeds will need different quantities so you must make sure that you are buying the right product. If you do not know what to buy you can always consult good web sites and even your local vet for extra information.
