Vitamin D and Cancer

According to some studies that have been performed in the past vitamin D has a good influence when dealing with cancer. It seems that if you consume higher quantities of calcium combined with vitamin D you will be faced with lower chances of developing cancer.

The one fact that is really interesting is that high sun exposure sometimes reduces the number of cancer deaths among the population. This is possible because vitamin D is synthesized naturally by our body when the skin is hit by sun rays. Due to this observation a study was done in order to see the connection between vitamin D and cancer. It was shown that people with high intake of vitamin D have less risks of developing cancerous lesions. The problem is that we do not have enough proof that vitamin D deficiency can increase the risk of cancer. We do not even have proof that taking higher quantities of supplements can protect our body from some cancer types. The good news is that a lot of clinical trials are currently conducted and results should appear soon.

We do know that people that have more vitamin D in their body are less susceptible for cancer development. On the other hand, if we combine vitamin D and cancer we are faced with extra benefits. This combination has been proven to work well in reducing cancer development risks.

The key aspect that we must think about is that vitamin D is highly important for our body. Whether or not it can protect against cancer should not be our priority. Specialists have stated that you need to take around 200 IU of vitamin D daily but more will not hurt. In fact, if you are over 51 you should take in double the quantity on a daily basis. The good news is that we can actually take up to 1000 IU of vitamin D and toxicity will not appear at these quantities. It is a good idea to increase vitamin D intake in order to possibly protect you against some forms of cancer and gaining all the benefits that this nutrient offers. We recommend that you consider a good all around multi vitamin product that comes with at least 200 IU of vitamin D daily. Such a supplement will give you all the possible benefits linked with vitamin D, especially if you also get it from sun exposure and certain foods.
