Vitamin C Diet

Most animals around the world have the capability of creating vitamin C. Unfortunately we can not do that and we have to rely on our diet in order to take in the much needed quantities of this important nutrient. Vitamin C is considered to be the safest and most needed nutrient out of all vitamins and we should never avoid it when eating or simply building our personal nutrition plan.

The benefits of a vitamin C rich diet are numerous. This includes boosting the immune system, fighting infections, cancer protection, improving our chances to fight arthritis, diabetes and heart disease. A diet containing vitamin C in recommended quantities will also improve the iron absorption present when food is concerned and will be beneficial in maintaining good teeth and bones. Sometimes it even aids men in overcoming infertility but this is very rare and can only apply in strict circumstances.

Your vitamin C diet needs to include a lot of fruits and vegetables. Basically all of them have vitamin C but some do have higher quantities. The best examples can be given in broccoli, kiwi, green peppers, blackcurrants, lemons, strawberries, oranges and cabbage. Unfortunately, you must also know that vitamin C is usually destroyed in around 60 percent through heat. This basically means that your vitamin C diet will not be right if you cook these good nutrient sources.

A vitamin C diet that is deficient will bring in different symptoms. In most common cases people will be faced with an increase in flu and colds, longer healing periods in infections and cuts, lethargy, weakness, bleeding gums, insomnia and irritability. Whenever you feel a combination of these symptoms appearing you might want to consider increasing vitamin C intake. You should also know that heavy drinkers and smokers are very susceptible to vitamin C deficiency. This is because their body will need higher quantities of these nutrients in order to deal with damage caused by these conditions. The same can also be said for athletes, people that are under a lot of stress and individuals that take antibiotics, aspirin or anti-arthritic medication.

In conclusion, you need to understand the importance of vitamin C in your diet. It should always be included in proper quantities. The good news is that all you really need to do is eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. It is recommended that you mostly include the ones mentioned above but in general such an approach on your diet will give you enough vitamin C.
