Sources of Folic Acid

Folic acid is really important for us and we are talking about one vital vitamin. It is useful in keeping our body in good mental and physical wellbeing. The problem is that a lot of people are faced with folic acid deficiency. Since it is important to meet the RDA properly, we have to make sure at all times that the right quantity of this vitamin is included in our day to day diet. Unfortunately this does not always happen due to various reasons that we should not talk about at the moment.

If you are looking for good sources of folic acid you can get it in two ways: a good nutrition plan and vitamin supplementation. When talking about diet we have to recommend fortified cereals as a great source of folic acid. Keep in mind that you have to look for cereals that were fortified with 100 percent of the vitamin RDA. This basically means that 400 mcg of folic acid needs to be included in the cereals. On the other hand there are also other foods out there that include folic acid. Liver is one of the best because 3 ounces of liver come with around 180 mcg of vitamin B9. You can always combine liver with cowpeas, spinach, northern beans, avocado, peanuts, green peas, lettuce, tomato juice, orange juice or wheat germ. We can say that sources of folic acid that have to be included need to be varied. A good diet is always important when talking about every single vitamin needed.

Sometimes a nutrition plan will not include enough folic acid unless we put in vitamin supplements. Every single person should supplement what is eaten with a good multi vitamin product. The good news is that there are many choices available. We are talking about a lot of good vitamin supplements that contain more than enough folic acid needed on a daily basis. We recommend that you eat a well balanced diet and that you combine it with a multi vitamin supplement that includes 100% of the daily requirements of folic acid. Sometimes it is not that important to deal with looking for foods that are sources of folic acid. What is important is to make sure that the RDA is met properly. Unfortunately you will rarely do that without supplementation. In the event that you are taking drugs you will have to consult a doctor before buying vitamins.
