Liquid Folic Acid
Folic acid is a really important vitamin for our body. You will find it in various all around, one per day multi vitamin supplements and it is clear to understand why this happens. Folic acid is very important for us because it plays a crucial role in red blood cells formation, DNA maintenance and creation. Women that are pregnant must pay particular attention because it is required in higher quantities and regulates the fetus’ development of the nervous system. Also, patients that suffer from anemia might actually have to deal with folic acid deficiency, which requires supplementation. Vitamin B9 is used in protein metabolizing and will reduce cervical dysplasia. When you do not get enough folic acid in your nutrition plan you will have to opt for supplementation.
When talking about folic acid supplementation the biggest question that appears is whether or not you should use liquid folic acid products. Vitamin B9 is available in supplements under two forms: liquid form and pill form. Unfortunately a lot of people have problems in taking pills and if we are dealing with prenatal vitamins (which usually include calcium that makes the tablets a lot bigger) a lot of women will not enjoy taking supplementation.
The basic question that arises is whether or not you should opt for liquid folic acid and the answer is usually yes. Liquid vitamins offer a much faster absorption of nutrients. The problem is that a part of the folic acid that is included might be destroyed by our stomach acid. In this case we might be faced with not enough quantities of this important nutrient. On the other hand (especially in the case of prenatal vitamins) most liquid folic acid supplements on the market include higher doses of vitamin B9 when compared to regular pill supplements. This basically means that although destruction happens in the stomach we still get enough nutrients.
Liquid vitamins first appeared as an alternative for people that had problems in taking pills. When talking strictly about folic acid, it is actually recommended by most specialists that you only take special supplements that only contain this vitamin if you are pregnant. In other situations a good all around multi vitamin product might be enough to supplement your diet. Remember that the majority of folic acid that you take in should come from what you eat and not from pills or liquid solutions. Only supplement especially with liquid folic acid in the event that you really need it.
