Vitamin B6 and Pregnancy

Vitamin B6 is a very important vitamin for our body. It is crucial in the metabolism of fats, protein and carbs. Our bodies will use it in order to transform amino acids and the formation of red blood cells require it. We also have to add that vitamin B6 is very important during pregnancy. A lot of people tend to neglect it and this can be a very big mistake. Keep in mind that without adequate quantities of vitamin B6 the infant’s body will be faced with problems in developing the nervous system and the brain. To make everything even better, according to some research this vitamin is helpful during pregnancy as it relieves vomiting and nausea for some people. Although nobody really knows why that happens, it is clear that it does work in some circumstances and should be tried out if this is your case.

The good news when talking about vitamin B6 and pregnancy is that you do not require high quantities of this nutrient. The vitamin is present in most foods you already eat and all you really have to pay attention to is that you meet the recommended amounts. All pregnant women should consume 1.9 mg of vitamin B6 daily. When you get to nursing stage the quantity has to be increased to 2.0 mg daily. The good news is that a diet that is varied should bring in enough vitamin B6 during pregnancy. To make everything even better, prenatal vitamins usually include a minimum of 100% of the dose required. If you are suffering constantly from sickness consult your doctor. Vitamin B6 can aid you in dealing with this problem and nausea. When needed, you can supplement your diet with more of this nutrient.

Although it is very rare, vitamin B6 deficiency can appear. This especially goes during pregnancy as the woman’s body requires more quantities. You should be aware of the symptoms associated with vitamin B6 deficiency. The most common examples can be given in depression, anemia, tongue inflammation and sores. In rare cases mouth ulcer can also appear. The good news is that few women have to deal with vitamin B6 deficiency, even during pregnancy. If this is your case a simple change in the vitamin supplements you are taking can easily deal with the problem. We recommend that you purchase prenatal vitamins that contain at least the minimum daily requirements mentioned above.
