Vitamin B6 Absorption
When talking about vitamin B6 absorption we are referring to one topic that is difficult to understand. In fact, most people do not really care about it and all that they are interested in is how B6 benefits their life. While this is the normal approach anyone would take, understanding vitamin B6 absorption can aid you because it will make it clear how to properly use it.
When vitamin B6 is taken out of foods it is present as PMP, PLP or PN vitamins. Vegetables and fruits include around 30% of the vitamin under the form of PMglugoside. Vitamin B6 absorption takes place in the ileum and jejunum. The process that happens is passive diffusion. This basically means that animals have really high absorption capacity. With it being so high comes the fact that we can absorb a lot higher quantities than what is needed on a daily basis. Physiological demands of vitamin B6 are high but thanks to this fast absorption rate we will not really be faced with B6 deficiency if our diet is proper.
Pyridoxamine phosphate and pyridoxal phosphate are absorbed through the involvement of phosphorylation catalyzd thanks to alkaline phosphatase that is membrane bound. Products obtained and vitamers that are non-phosphorylated are absorbed in our digestive tract thanks to diffusion. Basically the vitamin is trapped as 5’-phospates thanks to phosphorylation action, right in our jejunal mucosa. After this we can notice the next step of vitamin B6 absorption, which stands in pyridoxamine and pyridoxine being oxidized in tissue. The result is pyridoxal phosphate, which is later used by our body.
The entire process that is linked with vitamin B6 absorption is complicated when talking to regular people. Most of us are not really interested in how the process happens. All we tend to want to know is how vitamin B6 can help us. While this is an entirely different subject than the one we are talking about, there is one fact that has to remain in your memory. Vitamin B6 absorption is easy for the human body and we are very rarely faced with problems from this point of view. Vitamin B6 deficiencies usually happen because the person suffering from it is not taking in enough quantities of this nutrient and not because absorption is hindered. In this case the only real solution stands in supplementing your diet with a good B vitamin product. If only vitamin B6 is deficient (which is very hard to happen) then special supplementation that is only based on this nutrient is possible.
