Vitamin B15 (also known as Pangamic acid) is one of the most controversial nutrients available. This is because we are dealing with a water soluble vitamin that is not well researched. At the moment we are not aware of the exact recommended dietary allowance that is needed. Keep in mind that we are dealing with a vitamin that is known under many alternative names and comes in various forms: calcium panmanate, pangamic acid, N,N-Dimethulglycine, DMG or Dimethylglycine.

Although vitamin B15 requirements are not well known, what we do know is the fact that it is included in pumpkin seeds, brown rice, nuts, seeds, brewer’s yeast and sesame seeds. In most cases people will get vitamin B15 through a well balanced diet. In the event that we take multi vitamin supplements or B Complex Vitamin supplements we will also noticed that vitamin B15 is usually included. The only real problem stands in the fact that we do not really know how much we should consume.

In the past Pangamic Acid has been used for a number of body actions. There are also some studies that have shown possible uses and reactions that aid us. It is claimed that B15 aids in detoxifying free radicals and poisons while also extending life span shown by cells in our body. Different specialists think that it helps with asthma and angina. Different other biological actions are linked with vitamin B15 by other specialists. This includes lowering cholesterol levels, reducing alcohol cravings, synthesizing proteins, protecting us against liver cirrhosis and stimulating hormones aimed to deal with stress situations.

The biggest problem with the claims above is that we do not have 100% proof that they are reality. This basically translates in the fact that we do not know how much vitamin B15 to consume and whether or not problems with overdoses or toxicity can appear. In this case our recommendation stands in choosing a good brand multi vitamin supplement that includes all water soluble vitamins in quantities put in by the manufacturer. We must also consider always maintaining a healthy diet. This means that we must make sure that all food types are included and calculated in the right quantities in our diets. The good news is that this is not at all difficult and since vitamin B15 is not considered a problem we should shift focus towards the other water soluble vitamins, which are mostly more important.
