Vitamin A and Dementia
Dementia could be defined as a progressive decline of mental functions like thinking, cognitive, reasoning and memory. Being a hindering defect, this dementia affects day-to-day life of a person. While speaking about Dementia, you might have a couple of different questions like, is Dementia a harmful disease? Is it curable? Here is the answer! Dementia in itself is not a disease; rather it is supposed to be the collection of symptoms, caused by multiple conditions or diseases. The symptoms of dementia include even the sudden changes in mood, behaviors and personality. When the cause is cured with care, dementia is eliminated. Deficiency of vitamin A and dementia goes hand in hand, as vitamin A acts on the brain to activate it.
The part of brain where learning, decision-making, memory and languages are stored is tremendously affected by dementia. Dementia tests should be accompanied with other tests like diabetes, low blood sugar etc. At times it is the side effect of vascular strokes, affecting the function of brain. Avoid the deficiency of vitamin A and dementia can be automatically by-passed.
Dementia is not confined to a single kind. The multiple dementias are cortical dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, DLB or Lewy Bodies dementia, vascular dementia, FTLD or Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration, persisting dementia induced by alcohol, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, dementia Pugilistica, Moyamoya syndrome, Benson’s syndrome, Huntington’s disease, due to metabolic abnormalities, Parkinson’s disease, subdural hematoma and Psuedo Dementia. If not everything, deficiency of vitamin A and dementia are related in some of the types, to treat effectively.
The tests for dementia include physical examination like attention, remembrance, calculation, drawing ability, reasoning, and expressions and comprehending word power. Moreover, neurological examination helps to find the power of vision, strength, hearing, sensation, coordination, reflexes and walking. At times, brain scan – CT or MRI can be taken for the accuracy of the result. Deficiency of vitamin A and dementia are related and thus vitamin deficiencies are checked before starting the treatment. Brain-wave examination, lumbar puncture and PET scan are some of the latest tests available in relation to dementia.
We have to accept the fact that there is no complete medicine for effective treatments, to deal with many kinds of dementia. Although vitamin A and dementia are related in the treatment, the support of the family members is much more favored by the doctors. Supplementing vitamin A and dementia elimination is effective only when the exact cause is found. This happens only with the cooperation of the family members.
