Septic Arthritis Symptoms

Because this is an infectious medical condition, it will include all the symptoms that most infectious maladies return. Most patients are already suffering from another infection within their body such as pulmonary infections, genital infections or stomach infections and when the first septic arthritis symptoms appear they do not differentiate them from the symptoms they are already experiencing because of the initial disease. Sometimes, these signs get ameliorated and the septic arthritis symptoms unnoticed because the patient is already under antibiotic medication, witch is anyway the main drug against septic arthritis.

The primary sign that might suggest we have septic arthritis is feverish episodes. Of course in case of pneumonias, where the pulmonary infection was transported by blood and taken toward articulations, fever is common and few people would consider going to a doctor in order to make investigations for a different infectious disease once they are already aware they have an infection in their lungs. In case of septic arthritis fever, you will also be experiencing cold episodes and even chills.

The next warning sign, witch will install itself quickly will be the pain. Right about now, any patient should realize that something else is wrong. An exception are of course, the septic arthritis cases that are caused by open wounds, in witch case the pain in the affected area is considered as normal and the patient won’t suspect that something else is wrong. In these cases, checking the wound frequently and cleaning it thoughtfully can prevent the development of further infections. Remember that in general, the articulation pain will appear after, not before the feverish episodes. The pain will gradually escalade, in a matter of days until a climax when the affected person will not be able to move the articulation at all.

By this point, a major swelling around that articulation should be visible and even red areas around the swelling might appear if the infection is quite sever and important quantities of purulent fluid were secreted by the infected articulation. If you are an adult person, you should be able to realize by yourself at this point that you have a serious infection there. In case of kids, whenever they complain about pain in knees or ankles (witch are the main concern articulations when it comes to septic arthritis symptoms) an adult should check the problem area and if it’s swelled and reddish, he should take the child to a doctor immediately.

It is important to remember this combination of septic arthritis symptoms and once you’ve recognized a few of them to go to a doctor because once an articulation is infected it will get degraded and destroyed very quickly, as the regeneration of cells that surround it is very slow and the immune system will not be able to help that much in these infections.
