Plum

Adaptable to different soil and climate conditions, easy to grow, the plum tree is cultivated both in plain fields and mountain climates. In time, it became one of the existence means and tradition source for peasants all over the world.

Juicy and of an unique color, plums have a multifaceted use and they can be eaten fresh, dehydrated, preserved as jams, jellies, compost or as a liqueur component, some countries in Europe even make vodka like strong drink from plums.

Compared to other fruits, they have a very high nutritive value because of the high sugar count. Because of the vitamins they contain (B1, A, B2, PP and C), the minerals (potassium, calcium, ferum and sodium), the plums are a natural source of good health, important to our organism.

The plums present multiple benefits. If they are fresh they:

- should be consumed a half hour before main meals, as a juice.
- have energizing qualities because of the sugars they enclose, and this is the reason why they are also stimulants for the muscular and cerebral systems.
- are natural vitamin sources, helping toxin elimination and fighting tiredness and anemia
- are the best allies of intestinal transit, stimulating and normalizing both intestinal transit and liver volume and fortifying the immune system
- in case of obesity, high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis, exclusive 3 day plum diets are recommended.

Dried plums:

- keep their properties for a long time, being able to raise the levels of hemoglobin.
- can constitute a great 4 day cure for our skin if repeated many times in one year.

For diuretic and laxative effects, 8 to 10 plums are required, consumed as they come in the early morning or, if fresh plums are not available, you can make a drink from 6 or 7 dried plums, placed in a cup with warm water and some lemon juice.

Thanks to their delicious taste, the plums are fruits that often get used in patisseries and bakeries. Many wonderful plum recipes are available on the internet or in your home cooking book. I know not many women still own a regular cooking book and that the internet is a more complex and undivided source of information, but sometimes cooking losses its charm when you have to run in and out of the kitchen to simply check on the internet if you added the right amount of ingredients.

The plum is a welcomed addition to anyone’s diet because it can bring so many benefits at such low costs.
