When to take Casein Protein?

When talking about casein protein the biggest problem that appears is a lack of knowledge in knowing when it works best. Most people ask whether or not to take casein protein drinks before they go to bed. Although there are many bodybuilders out there that do so, there are also some that do not. It can be quite difficult to trust someone when others are saying otherwise. Unfortunately, when talking about protein supplements in general there are different beliefs. The truth is that bodybuilding nutrition is one topic that does cause a lot of debate. On the other hand, there are some facts about casein protein that can shed some light on the topic at hand.

Scientific studies have proven the fact that it will take around 7 hours for casein protein to be fully absorbed into our body. This is because casein will create a lining inside our stomach that can slow its digestion. Such a fact does make casein protein perfect to take before we go to bed. A regular bodybuilder needs to sleep for around 8 hours in order to be properly rested. The fact that casein protein is absorbed slowly means that the body can get the needed quantity of protein during sleep. We can say that casein protein supplements are perfect to be taken before we go to bed. On the other hand, there is also a way to properly use different supplements before you go to bed.

Any food you eat will be digested slower if we add fat. If we mix whey protein with healthy oils we will end up slowing protein absorption. Whey protein is absorbed very fast by our body and if we turn it into a supplement that has a slower absorption rate we can use it to replace casein protein.

Due to the fact that casein protein is absorbed at a slower rate than all other protein types, it is basically only recommended at night, before you go to bed. On the other hand, since we can transform whey protein into a supplement that is absorbed more difficulty we need to recommend that you replace your casein protein supplements. The best thing you can do is use whey protein supplements. You will probably take 3 doses. One is needed in the morning and one right after your workout. The third one should be combined with healthy oils and taken before you go to bed.
