The All Protein Diet

We are sad to see that a common misconception linked with protein diets exist. It is believed by many people that an all protein diet is perfect for building muscle mass as fast as possible. The truth is that protein supplementation is important in helping the entire muscle mass building process. Protein is basically the one macronutrient that should never be neglected by a bodybuilder or athletes that is looking for extra muscle. Unfortunately, an all protein diet will not aid you in reaching any bodybuilding related goal. It is highly important that we understand this.

It is basically impossible for the human body to live healthy while on the all protein diet. Contrary to what you might believe, such a diet basically refers to eating as much protein as possible while reducing carbohydrates as much as possible. Although eating more protein is sometimes a good fact in one’s body, if we keep this up we will be faced with a lot of problems. For instance, an all protein diet has to be based on meat as the main food you would eat. By eating mainly meat you will be faced with uric acid levels that are high in your blood. This basically increases the risks of developing some illnesses based on bacteria and even some forms of cancer.

The all protein diet will also minimize your potential to properly build muscle mass. If we eat too much protein and we do not have enough fats and carbs we will end up with ketosis. This is a really bad condition if we are thinking about building muscle. Ketosis is only helpful in the event that we need really quick weight loss and should not be maintained for long. When reaching ketosis we might be faced with the body burning muscle in order to generate energy. This is surely not something you want.

The all protein diet is not recommended by any sports trainer or good nutritionist. It is highly important that your daily nutrition plan includes proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Keep in mind that we only mentioned some of the negative aspects of maintaining the all protein diet. There are many others that can be mentioned. Even if you are doing this in order to lose weight, you should be aware that the lost weight you see is mainly water and not fat. After you get back to a regular diet you will se that the weight will return and you might actually gain even more weight than you loss in a very short period of time.
