Protein Interactions

Many weightlifters and bodybuilders swear by certain supplements that, according to the person speaking, are indispensable when it comes to working out and improving strength. One should always take this information with a grain of salt. For one thing, most workout supplements amount to little more than snake oil. Millions, and perhaps billions of dollars are made each year on the ignorance of the weightlifting community as a whole. This is sad and it is somewhat astounding that this process continues, unabated. Any other industry that was knowingly selling false hopes and promises would have a royal class-action suit on their hands, but perhaps it is a testament to the general stupidity of the bodybuilding community that nobody has challenged these companies legally. I digress, however. The other thing to keep in mind when someone claims that "X" supplement has helped them to double their bench press is that everybody is different, and our bodies respond differently than others to different supplements. In the widespread world of nutritional fitness supplements, there is one, and only one, supplement that works effectively and as advertised. That is whey protein.

Whey protein has long been a staple of the weightlifting community but it always seems to be overshadowed by questionable supplements that nearly always prove to be ineffective. The fact of the matter is that protein is the basic building block of muscle. The protein interactions that take place when muscles are repaired after a long workout are what make muscles grow in the first place. Without enough protein, there is no way for the proper protein interactions to take place in order to increase size and strength. You can take every workout supplement on the shelves of GNC and still have no gains in strength or bulk if you don't have enough protein in your diet.

This isn't to say that protein is the only fitness supplement that works. There are plenty of things that work well, and in fact increase protein interactions, but one must always remember that it comes down to protein. Keep that in mind, and you will be able to build muscle and strength without ever touching a bottle of creatine, glucamine, or taurine. A tub of whey protein can be found not only at fitness stores but at Wal-Mart, Target, and nearly every grocery store. Whey protein is not very expensive, but it should be considered priceless if you are a weightlifter or bodybuilder.
