Treatment of Osteoarthritis

There is no known definitive treatment of osteoarthritis but there are treatments that can reduce pain and can maintain articulation mobility. Your doctor can recommend a combination of treatments that can include medicine, self care, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. In some cases, chirurgical interventions might be necessary.

The drugs are used to reduce pain and to treat the pain and swelling caused by osteoarthritis and to improve the functioning of articulations. These drugs used for the treatment of osteoarthritis include both topical and oral medicine. Drugs that can be bought without a medical prescription can be used to ameliorate the symptoms of minor osteoarthritis, but there are stronger painkillers and pharmaceuticals than can only be obtained with a prescription.

Locally used analgesics are usually found under the form of creams, gels, spays and lubricants that temporally reduce the pain in the articulations. The acetaminophen proved to be very efficient when used as a treatment of osteoarthritis’ inflammatory symptoms in persons that suffer from minor to moderate pain. You must consult you doctor before deciding to consume this pharmaceutical daily because it can damage your liver when taken in doses higher that recommended or for a longer time than its intended. It can also affect the actions of other drugs you might be taking so a visit to the physician is recommended before use.

Anti inflammatory drugs act two ways: first they reduce the pain caused by muscular tears and osteoarthritis and then they combat inflammation. These drugs vary from aspirin from ibuprofen or others, which are released only if you have prescription. These drugs have side effects when they are used for a long time. These side effects include gastric injuries, cardiovascular problems, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver and kidney deterioration.

Also included in the treatment scheme of osteoarthritis are the anti-depressive drugs. Apart from their anti depressive abilities they can also help people escape from chronic pain. Sometime people with osteoarthritis can also suffer form depression.

There are alternative ways to regard the treatment of osteoarthritis, and people that believe nature holds the best secrets in killing pain. Here come in front the homeopath drugs that are mainly natural medicines, taken directly plants and other natural resources.

The ultimate form in witch the treatment of osteoarthritis is found is the surgery. Surgeries can help reduce problems and pain. In surgeries that intend replacing the articulation, the surgeon will remove the destroyed articulation and replace it with a plastic or metal fitment called a denture. Hip and knee articulations are replaced most often. But today, modern techniques allow surgeons to replace even finger or elbow articulations.
