Osteoarthritis Causes

Osteoarthritis is the result of chemical modifications at cartilage levels that make it destroys itself in a more rapid rhythm that it’s getting reproduced. In most cases, specialists do not know the cause for cartilage damage. In some cases, the osteoarthritis causes might be some other illnesses (this is called secondary osteoarthritis).

Excessive body weight subjects the articulations to extra pressure, especially when it comes to weight sustaining articulations like knees and hips. Specialists claim that each pound of body weight returns a pressure of about 3 pounds on our articulations. Studies show that the main osteoarthritis causes in obese persons are precisely results of their extreme body weight. Loosing weight can lessen knee pain symptoms or the possibility of developing these symptoms in persons that are not yet diagnosed with osteoarthritis.

Amongst the common osteoarthritis causes we can also count injuries that affect articulations. In time, even if such an injury is minor, it can lead to cartilage deterioration. Even if daily activities can not produce osteoarthritis, some activity types such as lifting weight constantly or sitting on your knees tensions repetitively the articulation and can be considered some of the secondary osteoarthritis causes. Muscle weakness also increases the risk of developing osteoarthritis. For example, if the front muscle situated above the knee is too weak, it can lead to knee osteoarthritis.

Usual daily activities that involve keeping an articulation in a deviated position compared to its normal axis can also lead to deterioration and elevate the risk of forming osteoarthritis.

Having an osteoarthritis family history can also influence the chemical process at cartilage levels. Although it is not considered to be a genetically inherited disease, some family genes can the perfect support for osteoarthritis causes.

Other rarely encountered osteoarthritis causes are some metabolic or endocrine affections, like having too much iron in your organism or producing too many thyroid or parathyroid hormones. These affections can also produce cartilage damage and finally help the osteoarthritis mechanism.

Growth or development deficits registered at articulation levels can accelerate the destruction of cartilages and can lead to the development of osteoarthritis at a younger age. These unusual infirmities usually affect the hip articulation.

General osteoarthritis causes are determined by age. Normally people develop osteoarthritis after a full life of articulation movement and alimentary excesses. The illness evolves in mature subjects but its first symptoms can be distinguished only around the age of 60 – 65, and a bit earlier when it comes to women.
