Does Inositol Help with Panic Attacks?

Inositol is one among the members of vitamin B complex and otherwise called vitamin B8. Naturally it is obtained from nuts, beans, whole grain and fruits like citrus and natural food containing phytic acid. This acid releases inositol when acting through bacteria of the digestive system. It is also available in all animal tissues and abundantly in liver and heart tissue.
It becomes part of the membranes of all cells and aids the liver’s processing of fats. It is fundamental for cell membranes and it is necessary for proper function of muscles, nerves and brain. Inositol is found in the spinal fluid. It is primarily involved in depression and panic attacks. Generally it is described that the individual having depression and frequent panic attacks is having a lower inositol level in their spinal fluid than a normal individual.

Serotonin is a chemical which transmits messages from one nerve cell to another and also referred to as a neurotransmitter. Inositol participates in the action of serotonin which is known to be a factor in depression. Because of this participation in the function of serotonin, inositol is prescribed in the treatment of depressive disorder and panic attacks. Inositol is also practically tried in psychological and nerve related disorders.

The individuals having frequent panic disorder develop panic attacks without any warning symptoms associated with high heartbeat, unusual heaviness in the chest and sweating. Studies show that 12g of daily dosage of inositol lowered the frequency and severity of the attacks.

Inositol comes under the complex of vitamin B and it has been proved that it helps in calming down a person who suffers from nerve tingling or nerve twitches. Inositol plays a double role by calming down and accelerating the nerve impulses. In individuals with anxiety, inositol is slowly given in low dosage and its dosage is increased until the symptoms disappear. Inositol is primarily used to decrease panic attacks. The continuous and regular use of inositol helps in having residual effects in panic attacks. Consistent use of inositol definitely reduces the frequency of the panic attacks or even maintains the individual without having the attack for a longer period.

It is generally advised that inositol must be taken regularly in the individuals who often have panic attacks. The general maintenance dosage is 2g thrice in a day and a total of 6g is enough to arrest any panic attacks.
