Gout

Have you ever waken up in the middle of the night feeling that your hand or finger is on fire? Have you ever felt an articulation so hot, swelled and shiny that even the weight of a feather could seem unbearable? All these symptoms altogether might be indicating that you are suffering from gout, a form of arthritis that is characterized by there severe pain attacks, sudden and accompanied by shiny skin and redness around articulations.

Gout is a complex condition that can affect anyone. Men are considered to be more inclined to develop gout than women, but women after menopause are inclined to suffer from these diseases. Fortunately, gout is very treatable and there are ways to stop the gout attacks from reappearing. In the past, gout was considered to be a disease of the rich, those who thrived on venison.

Gout is a disease that results from uric acids crystals that deposit themselves in body tissues. It is characterized by an overload of uric acid in our organism and repeated attacks that cause inflammation in articulations. Chronic gout can lead to the appearance of solid uric acids deposits around articulations, to kidney malfunctioning and to kidney stones.

Gout has a unique feature, being one of the most frequent diseases throughout history. It is often related to gene abnormalities that are genetically inherited, and impose the incapacity of the body to process and break apart the uric acid. The uric acid is a product of the decomposing of proteins, witch can be found in many aliments we eat. Such an abnormality can provoke gout attacks, kidney stones and the blocking of kidney’s filtration channels with solid uric acid, leading to kidney collapse. On the other hand, some patients can only develop high levels of uric acid in their blood, without having arthritis or kidney problems. The term gout is usually used to describe the painful arthritis attacks.

The gout arthritis is usually an extremely painful attack with a rapid debut that is shortly followed by inflammation. Inflammation is stimulated by the deposits of uric acid crystals in the articulation liquid and around the cartilage. The sever inflammation occurs because the white cells in our blood surround the uric acid crystals and release the chemical substances of inflammation, causing pain, warmth and the redness of the tissues around the articulation.
