Sugar Diabetes Connection
Truth be told, despite the sophisticated array of technology we have at our disposal, despite the significant wealth of experience we have at our fingertips with medical experts and scientists located throughout the world we are still no further in determining just what exactly causes diabetes. All we have is supposition, speculation and theories, nothing tangible or concrete which would allow us to say without a shadow of doubt that a particular factor will defiantly result in or give rise to, diabetes.
One of the most prevalent myths surrounding diabetes is the “sugar diabetes” saga, in that many people believe that an excessive consumption of refined sugar in the diet will automatically put that at person at a greatly elevated risk of contracting diabetes. The truth of the matter is that whilst a diet rich in saturated fats as well as refined sugar will cause a myriad of health problems such as heart attacks, obesity and strokes, there is no direct evidence that the “sugar diabetes” myth is actually genuine.
However, if you have just read the above paragraphs are now gleefully rubbing your hands (whether physically or mentally) at the prospect of you being able to consume sugar with impunity then you need to seriously reconsider what you are doing. Say for arguments sake that the “sugar diabetes” connection is indeed erroneous and that sugar has no direct bearing on the development of diabetes: you are still placing yourself at an increased risk of developing obesity and there is a wealth of evidence that clearly demonstrates a very strong and compelling causal link between obesity and the risk of developing diabetes.
What is clear however is that if you do happen to suffer from diabetes then you DO need to make sure that you carefully supervise and monitor the amount of sugar that you consume because if you do not, then you will have an excess of sugar in your bloodstream that cannot be safely or properly filtered or regulated by the insulin in your body. A sugar overdose in a person suffering from diabetes type 1 is tantamount to suicide and so it is rightly classified as a medical emergency.
It is also possible that the diabetic may suffer from too little sugar in the blood in which case they must ensure that they increase the amount of sugar in their blood as soon as possible.
