Science has long established that many brain and nervous system disorders are a direct result of long-term nutrient deficiencies... |
The stresses of a modern life, natural depletion of essential nutrients from your diet, a decrease in your immunity and the subsequent vulnerability... |
The ‘standard’ medical solution for high cholesterol is to prescribe a statin drug. Whereas these are generally effective in lowering cholesterol… |
Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes is an extremely common health condition in the Western world, and this is typically attributed to the diet enjoyed by many people which tends to be rich in fat and refined sugar. Diabetes mellitus is a rather curious combination of words because whilst the word “mellitus” can be literally translated as “honey”, rest assured there is absolutely nothing tasty or sweet about the symptoms that the patient has to endure! Like any other health condition, prevention is far better than the cure (especially given that there is to date, no actual cure as such for diabetes). By being aware of the factors that increase the risk of contracting this health condition, you will be able to reduce your chances of getting it.
The body is a fascinating thing, a system and series of highly complex chemical reactions all of which occur throughout the body. Every part of the body works in perfect harmony with the others, or at least, they are supposed to, and when one part of the body should cease to work as effectively as it should then this can cause major problems throughout the whole body.
We eat food in order to fuel the various chemical reactions that occur throughout the body and all food matter will contain (in varying amounts) nutrients such as fat, protein, carbohydrates etc. Glucose is carried through the bloodstream and then transported to the various cells located throughout the body. In order to prevent an overflow, the body has a complex system in place in order to regulate the amount of glucose which is dispersed to the cells at any given time. The hormone known as insulin is the hormone used to regulate this process.
Diabetes mellitus is caused whenever the production of insulin is impaired and if left unchecked can cause a number of pathologies for the sufferer. By far, one of the most traumatic and worrying of these is the increased risk of blindness occurring, as well as problems with circulation. It is quite common for people who suffer from diabetes mellitus to have bluish feet as well as numbness there as a result of the poor blood circulation to their lower extremities. The sufferer will also have to contend with a compromised immune system which means that they will have prolonged healing times and be much more likely to succumb to further infection as well. Diabetes mellitus can be prevented, and care should be taken to ensure that it is.
