Uses Of Bioflavonoids
I am sure that you have read and heard a great deal about bioflavanoids, free radicals, and your health. But what does it all mean? What are the uses of bioflavonoids and what is a free radical?
The uses of bioflavonoids are many. In addition to helping neutralize free radicals in our bodies they can help slow down or eradicate many health symptoms. Some particular uses of bioflavanoids are using Saw Palmetto to help with prostrate problems, eating diets rich in carrots and other yellow and orange fruits and vegetables in order to help reduce the occurrence of cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye problems. Furthermore, bioflavanoids can ward off colds and other disease as they help to improve the immune systems effectiveness. In plants where you have a lot of vitamin C you will also have a lot of bioflavonoids as these two nutrients work together.
Free radicals are molecules that have an unstable, uneven paring of electrons. When this occurs the molecules look to attach themselves to the first stable molecule they find. This in turn causes the stable molecule to become unstable and this sets off a chain of continuous free radicals being formed. Your body can handle this up to a point, however if free radical formation becomes a problem for any reason then you need to add bioflavonoids to your diet. Bioflavonoids work by neutralizing free radicals. In other words, they take the free radicals and make them stable again. This in turn reduces your susceptibility to diseases.
Overall there are many uses of bioflavonoids. The most common are adding foods high in bioflavonoids to increase overall health. Then there are the specific medical issues such as prostrate health, ED (erectile dysfunction) in men, eye health, and treatment of the common cold. The uses continue on to include use as a sweetener. DHC or dihydrochalcones are artificial sweeteners with zero calories that are derived from citrus fruits. The bioflavonoids in these fruits are used to make DHC.
There you have it. A group of phytonutrients called bioflavonoids. These groups of nutrients that are found in plants, compliment vitamin C, and are an amazing group of compounds. They can be used to improve our health, help us feel better, make us look better and they can sweeten our foods. It is amazing how useful bioflavonoids are. I wonder what the next use for them will be
