Growing Raspberry Plants
Raspberries are very taste but the bad news is that they come with a high price tag. This means that unless you happen to be very well off, you will have to go without. The high cost associated with raspberries is somewhat surprising given how easy they are to grow. In fact, even a novice gardener with little to no experience of planting and raising fruit can achieve some success! Tasty, low maintenance and extremely cheap in the long run, raspberries really are the novice gardener’s best friend.
Whilst other fruits (such as apples) tend to be rather particular about the type of soil they will grow in, growing raspberry is an extremely easy affair as the raspberry plant is a pretty resilient and robust being. For optimal results, make sure that you plant your raspberries in a soil that has a neutral pH, although if your soil is slightly acidic this will not cause too much of an issue. This is where growing raspberry excels, as for most other plants acidic soil would be the kiss of death to any hopes of success.
Another area in which raspberry really proves its worth is in relation to its resilience to frost because the raspberry does not tend to flower and blossom until late within a season. This means that it will be able to avoid the worst effects of frost. Whilst (and this is true for just about any type of plant) full exposure to the sun is always a bonus for the effective growth and development of the plant, growing raspberry plants in a shaded area will not cause too much problems.
The one thing that raspberry plants will need is a decent supply of water so make sure you water them frequently to keep them hydrated. This would maintain the growth process. Please be aware that whenever you actually harvest raspberries you have to keep in mind that they have a very limited lifespan indeed In fact, they tend to survive for only a day after being detached from their parent. As if this was not problematic enough, they bruise and crush very easily so you need to make sure that you store them carefully in order to avoid any mass wastage.
Thankfully, raspberries do have one saving grace: they freeze rather well and this means that you can simply harvest them and then put them in the freezer so as to prolong their lifespan.
