Black Raspberry

The black raspberries are known for their unique taste, benefic properties and perfumed presence. Black raspberries are almost always sweeter than their close sisters, the red raspberries.

They usually grow in the wild, in trees or bushes that can reach 2.5 meters in height, with spiky branches and leaves that are silvery beneath. It grows white and wonderful flowers when it’s in bloom. The fruits are small and of a very dark red, almost black, this is why they are called the black raspberries. The bush is also known as the mountain pyre, mainly because it grows well on well luminous soils and rocky mountain peaks, especially in forest cuts on hills and mountains. The black raspberries have been domesticated and are cultivated for their perfumed, tasty and nutritive fruits.

For medicinal purposes, the leaves of this tree are used if picked early, while they are still young, before or while the tree is in bloom. The dried leaves smell pleasantly and taste a bit spicy. The fruits are picked up as they ripe, in many different periods of the year.

The main benefic components of the black raspberries are tannin, vitamin C, about 800 milligrams per 100 grams of black raspberries and other flavonoid substances. The black raspberries are used as an astringent agent and as a disinfectant as they decrease gastric acidity. They are recommended and work well in diarrhea, hyperacid gastritis, stomach burns and other conditions of the digestive apparatus. The tea made from leaves and branches is used against coughing, in colds and against fever, but also against persistent headaches, stomach aches and heart aches or kidney malfunctions. Raspberry tea is especially valued by pregnant women who are not allowed to take medication for kidney problems with usually appear during pregnancy.

The black raspberries are, of course, valued friends in kitchen. An excellent raspberry pie can be made from fresh black raspberries, but also brioches, syrups and cakes or jams. It is believed that a cup full of fresh fruits a day can help children with appetite problems regain normal weight. Black raspberries are also good in anorexia and anemia, and during period of general weakness of the body.

Regardless of the purpose, we can enjoy this benefic fruits at any time during summer time without fearing side effects. As most fresh fruits they contain essential sugars that boost our organism during the exhausting summer days and freshen up our mind.
