Does Vitamin C Cause Acne

There is a lot of talk today about whether or not vitamin C causes acne. There are people that say too much vitamin C will cause you to break out. On the other hand, there are also those that say not enough vitamin C or a vitamin C deficient will result in added acne breakouts. How do you know which one is true?

There is no scientific research available to prove that too much vitamin C causes acne. There is a direct connection to vitamin deficiencies and acne. There are however, a number of scientific studies linking the various mineral and vitamin deficiencies to acne.

There are a number of vitamin and mineral deficiencies that cause acne to appear. They are vitamins A, B, C, E, Chromium, and zinc. How does a deficiency in particular vitamin cause acne? Let us look at Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is one of the vitamins a body needs to properly function and stay healthy. It is an antioxidant. It helps promote healthy skin by removing free radicals from the body. If you are deficient of vitamin C, you become susceptible to acne. Vitamin C is in fruits, mainly in citrus fruits, and vegetables. One of the best sources of vitamin C is Amla.

If you have acne already present, increasing your vitamin c can help relieve you of it. It all is a matter of checks and balances. Your body is like that of a very complicated machine. If you take one aspect or piece of the machine out, it will not operate properly. Well, your body is the same way.

Your body consists of many different parts. Vitamin C is responsible for the function in over 300 separate metabolic body functions. If you do not have the amount needed any number of things can happen. Yes, one of those things is acne. As the body cannot fight off the blemish or combat the oil in your skin, acne appears.

In conclusion, does vitamin C cause acne? Not in the means many think. The intake of vitamin C does not cause blemishes but the insufficient amount of vitamin C within ones body does. Therefore, it is not the use but the lack of use of vitamin C that can cause skin problems. Try to eat a well balanced diet and take into consideration that your body needs all the help it can get to stay functioning properly
